Our new 2012 eight-band LED grow light is the culmination of years of scientific research producing the highest quality crops while increasing yields using indoor lighting. Early models of LED lights focused on the main color bands that are absorbed by plants and used to grow – mostly reds and blues. This was done largely as a cure for the widespread usage of Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium lights for growing, even though they are designed only for lighting parking lots and warehouses. More than 85% of the light produced by Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium fixtures is not useable for growing plants.
Further research has shown that much like plants need trace elements in their nutrients, they also do better when additional color spectrums are present in grow lights. The MGL8F-900w fixture contains mostly red and blue color bands in approximately 8:1 ratio, but adds additional bands in carefully formulated amounts to give a perfect balance of eight colors – providing the optimum growing conditions for your plants.
LED is the future of growing, for many good reasons:
– far less power consumption for the same lumen output
– far less heat output – you don’t pay for power to create unneeded heat, and you don’t have to worry about ventilation
– designed with the ideal light spectrum for growing & flowering plants – not like halide or sodium which are designed for lighting streets & parking lots! Less than 20% of the light created by halide or sodium fixtures is usable by plants.
– 100% of light is focused downward on your plants, don’t waste light bouncing off a reflector, walls & ceiling
– LEDs last at least 5 times longer than a typical halide or sodium bulb
– LED is a smaller fixture, taking up less space in your grow area
